Teaching in Higher Education

Rachel Kelly in addition to her work as a practitioner has taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in UK & International Art Schools. Rachel is currently a Senior Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Textiles in Practice Programme at Manchester School of Art and External Examiner at Central St Martins, University of The Arts, London. Rachel graduated from Design for textile Futures at Central St Martins in 2001 and since then has informed her work with acdemic research, in particular her interest in interactive design and collaborative practice.

“Rachel Kelly’s sticker designs let the viewer take control and direct whatever final outcome… Our hunt for authenticity and honesty comes to its logical conclusion in ‘consumer as maker’, engaging with process to create something entirely personal and bespoke. But the advent of ‘consumer as maker’ does not undercut the importance of a skilled craftsperson. Kelly & Burgerman may empower their audience to create, they do not skill them. A glance at W is for Wallpaper only reinforces the humanity and beauty that a specialist can imbue into such humble materials as paper and ink”.
